OK. Wow! What a year so far. So busy.....
I have been honored to be invited to write for Yo Yo Ma's Silk Road Project. This is an incredible group devoted to exploring the sounds of the Silk Road blended with Western composition. They have been gigging for nearly ten years and they sound like it! So fluid and expressive. I teamed up with my dear friend and percussionist Mark Suter to arrange and orchestrate Altynai, a Kazakh love song. It debuted at the Rubin Museum in New York last September and has since been played around the world. It is currentl;y being performed in Switzerland where the group is playing at the Lucerne Festival. Please check out footage of the debut here:
Now for a little TV news. Going Going Gone has continued to air all summer long and is now heading into the Fall. The show airs Thursday eves @ 8:30pm and then another six times that week on Discovery Home. GGG is a 30 minute show following home buyers from the auction halls to the purchase, renovation, and evaluation of their new buy. If you have ever thought about buying that forclosed home or hoping to find a deal on auction, this show is worth checking out.
In other news, Oprah continues to cook!!! My debut as a composer for HARPO productions was May 22nd. Two of my Hammond organ tracks were featured on Oprah's primetime special on ABC, "Oprah's Legends Ball." Now the pace is picking up and Big 3 (the Oprah writing team) is dropping tracks all over the daily show as well as being featured in an upcoming, "Oprah Road Show." Should be fun. I'll post the air date when I get it.
Finally, having successfully converted another 200 wary Spoleto ticket holders over Memorial Day weekend to the groovalicious rockin' sounds of the B3, Big Bucket packed the car and headed north to NYC only to get stuck in a massive trafffic jam. Trying to make the most of an extremely trying situation, we decided to unpack our gear, power up off of the cigarette lighter, and have a road side traffic JAM! Check out the photos below. Drivers who had been stuck in traffic for over 2 hours went absolutely nuts! People got out of their car and danced, threw money, and cheered. This, my friends, is what music can do.....turn the worst of scenerios into a party.
Dig the assorted photos from the Balkans. Just below the ones of Big Bucket .
Big Bucket: Rocking the road side jam. NJ turnpike between exits 2 and 3. Dead stop traffic.
